How long does counselling usually last?
Timelines are flexible and depend on what you are hoping to address. Some people resolve what they came for in several sessions. Others work over a longer period. You are not signing up for anything open-ended — we review it together as we go.
What are the common benefits of therapy?
People report feeling less stuck, more self-compassion, and less influence from self-critical thoughts. They get better at identifying their own needs, recognising boundaries, and being emotionally close to people. Stress becomes more manageable, and many describe a deeper sense of meaning and appreciation of life.
I am worried about my first session.
That is completely normal, and worth saying out loud when you arrive. Angus offers a non-judgemental, caring and warm presence, and takes the first session slowly. Nothing has to be explained perfectly, and there is nothing you have to be ready for.
Do you offer telehealth or phone counselling?
Yes. Sessions run by phone or video conference as well as in person at Kew, and they are the same length and the same fee.
What does it cost?
Sessions are 50 minutes and the standard fee is $160. Sliding scale and concession rates are available — asking about it is a normal and welcome conversation to have.
Do I need a referral from my GP?
No. You can book directly, and you do not need a mental health care plan or a diagnosis to start.
Is what I say confidential?
Yes. Your privacy is completely protected by law. The only exception is where there is an imminent threat to someone’s safety. Client information is stored securely in line with PACFA requirements.
What if I need to cancel?
48 hours notice is required for cancellations.
